-
- (3.) Archives of messages from SCI.CHEM.ELECTROCHEM/ELETQM-L
-
- ********************************************************************************
-
- Newsgroup messages are typically not archived by NETNEWS. However, old messages
- that appeared on SCI.CHEM.ELECTROCHEM/ELETQM-L are available from two sources if
- you ever have the need for them.
-
- (3.1) They can be retrieved by anonymous ftp to
- sol.dmp.csiro.au:/pub/electrochem (192.68.132.2)
-
- The archived files are in an e-mail format. (All you have to do is use your
- e-mail program to treat the file as a folder. Then every article will be
- treated as a separate message). Included is a list of articles in chronological
- order. This is only a manual archive, so a couple of articles may be missing.
- Especially if the people crossposted the articles. If you have any problems
- using "ftp" contact your system manager or librarian for assistance.
-
- Following is an example of how to do a typical anonymous ftp session. Though
- graphical ftp software makes this much easier.
-
- ftp sol.dmp.csiro.au (makes the connection)
-
- user anonymous
-
- (when it asks for password, enter your e-mail address)
-
- cd/pub/electrochem (selects the required directory)
-
- ls (or dir) (gets a list of files)
-
- ascii (sets file transfer in ascii mode)
-
- (for some files the transfer mode needs to be set: binary )
-
- get "filename" (i.e., : get archive.txt.12jul94, or get list.of.articles)
-
- (for local filename, give your choice of name for the file to be transferred)
-
- successful file transfer will be indicated
-
- bye (exit ftp)
-
- (the file should now be in your current directory under your chosen name)
-

-
- (3.2) All messages are archived on ELETQM-L e-mail list. (Starting with June of
- 1994.)
-
- (3.2.a) You must be a subscriber of ELETQM-L to retrieve old messages (see
- subscription/unsubscription and other information in Section (2.) )
-
- (3.2.b) To obtain a listing of all available monthly archival files, send
- the e-mail message to LISTSERV@BRUFU.BITNET :
-
- INDEX ELETQM-L
-
- (3.2.c) To obtain any of the files, send the e-mail message to LISTSERV :
-
- GET ELETQM-L LOGXXXX
-
- (3.2.d) The archived messages of ELETQM-L can be searched using listserv
- database functions. To obtain an introductory description about this
- service, send the e-mail message to LISTSERV :
-
- GET LISTDB MEMO

-
- (4.) Reading the newsgroup via GOPHER and posting via E-Mail.
-
- ********************************************************************************
-
- (4.1) Reading via GOPHER
-
- HINTS: Use the bookmark option of your gopher to enable you to go directly to
- the relevant menu item.
- In the UNIX generic gopher, before the "electrochem" menu option, type "a" and
- fill in the name.
- To now revisit the electrochem area, all you have to do is type "v" (view) and
- all you bookmarks will appear. Pick the electrochem bookmark you typed in
- previously.
-
- ********************************************************************************
-
- There are three gopher servers listed here that can handle reading of
- newsgroups via gopher: (more additions welcome)
-
- Los Alamos National Laboratory Gopher (was very fast and extremely up to date)
-

-
- (4.2) Posting via E-Mail
-
- E-mail articles to: SCI.CHEM.ELECTROCHEM.USENET@DECWRL.DEC.COM
- Everything else, such as title, and message text should be done as per a normal
- email message.
-
- As using the "alias" facility of your email program can make posting via email
- a very easy procedure. If your email program does not support this "alias"
- option:
-
- a) Consider changing to a "better" email program such as the public domain
- (i.e., free) "pine" software which is available for UNIX, DOS and Mac. This
- program is very user friendly and powerful (to obtain binaries, anonymous ftp
- to ftp.cac.washington.edu:/pine (140.142.100.6:/pine). (there are other
- programs around - e.g., Wintrumpet (MS-Windows), Eudora (Mac and MS-Windows),
- etc).
-
- b) Email the old fashioned way to to submit your message or article.
-

-
- (7.4) Software package: Chemical reaction network toolbox (CRNT), Version 1.01
-
- The Chemical Reaction Network Toolbox (CRNT) is a program for IBM-compatible
- personal computers. It should be of interest to chemists, chemical engineers
- and mathematicians at all levels of expertise (ranging from undergraduates to
- those engaged in very advanced research). The program consists of two parts,
- ChemLab and Network Analyst, that "talk to each other".
-
- ChemLab is the part of CRNT that will probably be of interest to most users.
- ChemLab is essentially a simulation environment. In response to a
- user-specified network of chemical reactions (and a user-specified assignment
- of rate constants), ChemLab will generate the appropriate (isothermal mass
- action) system of ordinary differential equations governing the species
- concentrations. In response to user-specified initial conditions, ChemLab will
- solve the differential equations and display the results in a variety of
- numerical and graphical formats. In particular, ChemLab will plot species
- concentrations vs. time and will draw two- and three-dimensional composition
- trajectories. ChemLab will also draw several trajectories simultaneously so
- that you can see two- and three-dimensional phase portraits.
-
- Network Analyst, on the other hand, is somewhat more advanced. It implements
- certain results in chemical reaction network theory. Chemical reaction network
- theory deals with the relationship between reaction network structure and
- qualitative properties of the corresponding differential equations. For
- example, in response to a user-specified reaction network, Network Analyst will
- try to determine if there can be rate constants such that the resulting
- differential equations admit composition oscillations, an unstable steady
- state, multiple steady states, a degenerate steady state (i.e., one with a zero
- eigenvalue), and so on.
-
- CRNT comes with an on-screen tutorial and a help system that get you up and
- running pretty quickly.
-
- CRNT is available through anonymous ftp from:
-
- ftp.che.rochester.edu:/pub/feinberg
- (An example of the use of anonymous ftp service is shown in Section (3.1))
-
- There are two files to retrieve. The first file: CRNTPACK.TXT (retrieve in
- ascii mode) is a text file that explains how to use CRNT. The second file:
- CRNTPACK.EXE (retrieve in binary mode) is a compressed, self-extracting file
- that "unpacks" all the files that CRNT need to run properly. You should read
- the brief text file CRNTPACK.TXT. It tells you, among other things, to run the
- program CRNTPACK.EXE. This will have the effect of "unpacking" all the files
- that the CRNT needs to operate. Once the unpacking is finished, enter CRNT at
- the DOS prompt, and you'll be up and running. On your first time out, you
- should select "Hello, New User!" from the main menu.
-

- This compilation of review chapters is collected from multi-author books
- (series or single volumes) published in English since 1950, excluding meeting
- proceedings. In all probability, these review chapters (and their reference
- lists) contain all major advances made in electrochemistry during the last few
- decades. Hopefully, this listing will provide a useful information source for
- students and research workers of electrochemistry. The file is over 2900 lines
- long and contains over 800 items.
-
- This compilation is available through anonymous ftp from:

- (7.6) Cold nuclear fusion bibliography
-
- This bibliography has been collected since about the middle of 1989. It is
- regularly updated in postings to the news group SCI.PHYSICS.FUSION, and it is
- archived at an FTP site (see below), available to all. The same files are also
- part of a WAIS site at SUNSITE.UNC.EDU (log in as wais), where it is possible
- to make keyword searches.
-
- The bibliography files at the ftp site are:
- cnf-bks (books)
- cnf-pap1..cnf-pap6 (papers, slices 1..6, sliced up because the total file
- exceeds the desirable maximum archive file size)
- cnf-brif (all papers, without abstracts, in one file)
- cnf-pat (patents, mostly pat. appl. in fact)
- cnf-cmnt (comments in magazines and newspapers, far from
- comprehensive)
- cnf-peri (peripherals, meaning papers of possible interest to the
- subject but not about CNF per se)
- cnf-unp (unpublished stuff collected by Vince Cate, hydrogen/metal
- references from Terry Bollinger).
- cnf-new (last 3 months' of updates in all groups).
-
- ********************************************************************************
-
- Retrieval of the archived files:
-
- a. By anonymous FTP from VM1.NODAK.EDU (134.129.111.1). Login anonymous, with
- your e-mail address as the password. Type CD FUSION, DIR FUSION.CNF* to get
- a listing. The general index is large, containing also all Fusion Digests,
- a collection of all postings to sci.physics.fusion since 1989. Use GET
- (e.g. GET FUSION.CNF-PAP1).
-
- b. Via LISTSERV. You get a (large) index of the archives by sending an e-mail
- to LISTSERV@VM1.NODAK.EDU, with a blank SUBJECT line, and the message:
- INDEX FUSION. To get any one of these files, you then send to the same
- address the message, e.g.,
- GET FUSION 91-00487
- GET FUSION CNF-PAP1 etc, according to what you're after.

- COMPLETE TEXT OF THE 19TH INTERNATIONAL POWER SOURCES
- SYMPOSIUM LEAFLET (Brighton, England. 24th-26th April 1995)
-
-
-
- The following is the complete text of the POWER SOURCES 1995
- leaflet. I believe it includes as much detail as is currently
- available including the complete programme of papers, booking
- form and administrative details.
-
- There are significant discounts if you register by February 24th.
-
- This text was generated by scanning the official leaflet and
- running OCR software on the images. I have tried to remove
- any errors generated in the process and have chacked
- addresses, telephone numbers and prices at least once. I can
- not guarantee that this document is 100% accurate copy of the
- leaflet but it is very close.
-
- ALL PRICES ARE IN POUNDS STERLING.
-
- I encourage anyone with an interest in batteries or fuel cells
- to attend. I personally have not missed one since I discovered the
- Symposium ten years ago.
-
- Please forward your enquiries to the Symposium Secretary as
- described in the text.
